A Modern Take on a Table and Bench

I was very happy to receive this commission for an extra large solid oak table and bench. I sourced a very beautiful piece of oak to create this modern take on a classic table with tapered legs and a bench to match, with a button-bead mould to the underside rails on each piece. I thoroughly enjoyed making all these pieces using traditional mortise and tenons joints and fixing the tabletop using wooden cleats. A cleat in relation to a table is designed to allow the table top to move very slightly with the seasons, as wood is a natural product. This is a very traditional method and is not done commercially due to the time involved.
